AMO: Trends of Visegrad Foreign Policy 2019

Trends of Visegrad Foreign Policy 2019

During July and August 2019, Association for International Affairs (AMO) carried out a survey among key actors of Visegrad countries’ foreign policies. Politicians, civil servants, journalists, researchers and business representatives answered questions concerning their perception of current foreign policy issues and their expectations about them for the future. The conclusions of the survey have brought us a unique insight into how different policymakers reflect upon various foreign policy phenomena.

How do people, who create and affect Czech foreign policy look upon its present shape? Are their positions similar to those of their colleagues from the other V4 countries? Should we lift sanctions on Russia? Does China pose a threat to us? How has the perception of the UK changed in the light of the approaching date of Brexit? What is the prevailing opinion on the future course of the EU? Is cooperation under V4 considered to be an advantage? Is the Visegrad Group a united and influential actor?

More than 450 respondents from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland answered these and many other questions included in the survey carried out by AMO in July and August 2019.

Presentation of the Trends in Visegrad Foreign Policy research

The Association for International Affairs (AMO) in cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung cordially invites you to the presentation of the Trends in Visegrad Foreign Policy research.

The research is based on a survey conducted among V4 foreign policy stakeholders (politicians, journalists, think tankers, government officials, businessmen, academic experts) in August and September 2019. The questions covered their perception of their countries’ political preferences, stances towards the EU, the future of European integration, relations with major partners such as Russia, China or the USA, or specific issues like the sanctions over Ukraine against Russia or the position of V4 in Brussels. The results represent views of over 400 stakeholders. It offers an interesting and unique insight into the ways how relevant stakeholders think about foreign policy.

The event is a closed expert roundtable. It will take place on Wednesday 13th November 2019 in Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. Europeaburo Brussel (11, Avenue de l’Yser B-1040 Brüssel) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Deputy Research Director from the Association for International Affairs Pavlína Janebová will present the results of the research. After the presentation there will be room for discussion.
