Debate | What awaits us in 2026?

The first meeting of our series “What’s New in the European Parliament?” will focus on the key challenges the European Union will face in 2026.

A possible delay of the ban on internal combustion engines, boosting European competitiveness, the rollout of the Migration Pact, or the preparation of the multiannual budget. These are just a few of the major topics that MEPs are likely to tackle in 2026. In a flood of news, it can be difficult to find your bearings. What should we focus on? And what impact should we expect for the Czech Republic?

Join us as we navigate the challenges and tasks ahead for the EU, while also looking back at the past year. We will be joined in discussion by MEP Jan Farský, MEP Nikola Bartůšek and editor and commentator for Seznam Zprávy Kateřina Šafaříková and Research Director at the Association for International Affairs Pavlína Janebová

The discussion will be moderated by Viktor Daněk, Deputy Director and Head of Prague Office of the EUROPEUM Institute

📍 When: Monday, January 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM

Roundtable on the revision of the EU ETS II system

The EUROPEUM Institute, in cooperation with Member of the European Parliament Danuše Nerudová and the European People’s Party, is co-organising a closed expert roundtable for stakeholders on the revision of the directive on emissions pricing in transport and heating (EU ETS2). The outcomes of the debate will serve as one of the background inputs for Danuše Nerudová’s report in her role as the European Parliament’s rapporteur for the revision of the directive.

At the same time, the EUROPEUM Institute will present a background analytical paper that will serve as an input for the discussion. Based on this discussion, the Institute will subsequently prepare expert recommendations for the revision. The background paper is authored by analyst Rebeka Hengalová, and the discussion will be moderated by Viktor Daněk, Head of the Prague Office of the EUROPEUM Institute.

The event will take place on 🗓️ Friday, 16 January 2026, starting at 🕒 10:00, at the Europa Experience centre. Participation is by invitation only and subject to confirmed registration. Due to capacity constraints, the organisers may limit attendance; priority will be given to registrations that help ensure a diversity of views and interests represented at the event.
