Terms of Reference Internship on post-Soviet Region

The EPD is a newly established international foundation based in Brussels. Created by some 15 European organizations active in democracy assistance, the aim of the EPD is threefold: firstly, sharing knowledge in the field of democracy support (lessons learned, funding opportunities, practical experience); secondly, to advocating for democracy assistance to be higher on the EU and its Member States agendas; thirdly, offering flexible funding to democratization programmes outside Europe in transition countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. The European Partnership for Democracy is looking for a part-time intern that would support the activities of its Post-Soviet regions program. The intern will work directly under the supervision of the Senior Programme Officer.

Duties and responsibilities:

Fundraising and programme development:

  • Conducting research for funding opportunities with major multilateral and bi-lateral donors;
  • Assisting the Senior Programme Officer in the ellaboration of concept notes and project proposals;
  • Conducting research on major developments on EU relations and opportunities in the region;
  • Researching and Identifying potential partners and opportunities

Programme activities

  • Assisting the Senior Programme Officer in the organization and implementation of programme activities;
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks; on budget oversight and control and on elaboration of reports and other programme related documents; 
  • Assisting with communication with partner organizations and multilateral and bi-lateral donors;

Intern’s profile:

  • Generally pursuing a graduate degree on Political Science, Law, International Relations with special interest in International and EU Affairs and Post-Soviet region;
  • A basic knowledge of the Post-soviet region is a must;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Russian required; knowledge of French would be an asset;
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility, innovative ideas, proactive approach;
  • Essential IT skills; Finance and accounting skills an asset.

Conditions and benefits:

–          European Partnership for Democracy offers a 3 to 6 months assignment on a short-term contract signed by the EPD and the student’s home University/School/Institute;

–          Interns are fully involved in all aspects of our work; they are part of an international team that supports them in acquiring skills to work in an international organization and hands-on knowledge of how major international actors and stakeholders inter-relate, at the European and global levels;

–          Please note the EPD does not pay for internships ; the costs must be borne by the related institution or any other source of financial assistance, or by the student who will have to obtain financing for subsistance and make his own arrangements for travel and accomodation ;

–          Preferably the intern should be based in Brussels or Prague during the internship program;

–          Possibility to attend workshops, lectures and other events within and outside of EPD;

–          training programs;

–          Letters of reference and evaluation grid at the end of a successful internship;

–          Future job opportunities in a growing organization and its’ partner organizations.
