Czech Pre-Presidency Conference

The conference will take place in-person from Monday, 23rd May to Tuesday, 24th May in the Czernin Palace, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Loretánské náměstí 5, Prague.

In July this year, the Czech Republic will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. What are the priorities the Czech Republic will promote during the six-month presidency? It is a great pleasure to invite you to find out!

The Pre-Presidency Conference is a prestigious high-level meeting supported by the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), the oldest trans-European research network which spans 37 European countries. The conference is organized twice a year in the capital of the country of the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The conference will bring together academics, policy-makers, media and civil society in order to discuss the agenda and challenges of the upcoming Presidency. More specifically, the conference will assess the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the future of European security, but it will also explore a number of other key issues, such as the significance of the recent political reshuffle in Central Europe, the recommendations of the Conference on the Future of Europe as well as the new challenges to the Green Deal initiative.

Ochrana informačního prostoru, svobodná média a jejich role v posilování právního státu

Z veřejné konzultace před dvěma lety vyšlo stanovisko, že posílení odolnosti demokracie a evropský akční plán pro demokracii se mají týkat orgánů EU i vlád a parlamentů členských států (ty nesou hlavní odpovědnost za zajištění řádného fungování demokracie), stejně jako dalších vnitrostátních orgánů, politických stran, sdělovacích prostředků a internetových platforem. Při plném respektování vnitrostátních kompetencí samotných členských států představuje posílený rámec
politiky EU konkrétní opatření s cílem:

  • podporovat spravedlivé volby a silnou účast na demokratickém životě,
  • podporovat svobodné a nezávislé sdělovací prostředky, 
  • bojovat proti dezinformacím. 

Zdravá demokracie závisí na zapojení občanů do veřejného života a existenci aktivní občanské společnosti, a to neustále, nikoli jen v době konání voleb. Angažovaní, informovaní a zodpovědní občané jsou nejlepší zárukou odolnosti našich demokracií. V akčním plánu pro demokracii je kladen velký důraz na posílení postavení občanů a občanské společnosti v boji proti hrozbám, stejně jako na pluralitu médií ve smyslu, že žádné z nich nemůže být tak velké, aby postupem času opanovalo veřejný prostor v kterémkoli členském státu Evropské unie.
