On April 1, 2011 the Forum 2000 Foundation launched a relief fund to aid Japan, which was hit by a devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. Large areas were destroyed and many people lost their homes and loved ones. The Forum 2000 Foundation appeals to the international community for moral and financial support to help restore the area in Japan.
The official opening of this relief fund took place at the concert “Lawyers for Japan!“ on Tuesday, March 29. Contributions for the “Fundraising Campaign for Japan” can be sent to Komerční banka, account number 43-9092380207/0100. The fundraising campaign will last till May 31, 2011. We will send all collected donations to our long-term partner the Nippon Foundation, whose Chairman Yohei Sasakawa is one of the Forum 2000 founders. The Nippon Foundation has a long history of cooperating with local partners in areas devastated by natural disasters. This enables them with the experience to provide a quick and flexible response in the current situation. The money collected during this fundraising drive will be used for local projects aiding people and areas devastated by the earthquake and tsunami.
The Forum 2000 Foundation already expressed its solidarity with the victims a few days after the disaster and supported projects located both in Japan – the Relief Fund of the Nippon Foundation, or in the Czech Republic – cooperating on the children’s charity concert in Aš and the “Lawyers for Japan!” concert, with co-sponsors the Association of Czech Lawyers VŠEHRD and web portal ePravo.cz. Members of the Shared Concern Initiative published a special statement calling for international solidarity with the Japanese people in reaction to the catastrophe (the statement is available here).
More information about the fundraising campaign can be found on the Forum 2000 Foundation website. Thank you for your contributions!
