Invitation to the Václav Havel European Dialogues Prague Conference

We would like to invite you to the Václav Havel European Dialogues Prague Conference, which is organized by the Václav Havel Library in cooperation with the Forum 2000 Foundation, the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art and the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic.

The conference will be held February 21–22, 2014, in the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Osadní 34, Prague 7.

The aim of the Václav Havel European Dialogues project is to open and lead discussions in European affairs with a focus on Europeanism as part of Václav Havel’s legacy. The theme of this year’s conference, “The Citizen, Power and Democracy in Europe’s Crisis,” refers to Havel’s essay, “The Power of the Powerless.” The project seeks to provide the “powerless” with a space for reflection which can empower and inspire them to present their contributions to decision-makers and thus exercise their active citizenship.

During the two-day conference, you are invited to participate in a variety of debates on democracy in Europe, democratic capitalism, citizenship, as well as questions of the limits of civil society in a depoliticized Europe or a comparison of European and American federalism. Among the speakers who will present their contributions are Petr Pithart, Paul Flather, Jacques Rupnik, Jan Macháček, Claus Offe or Jiří Přibáň.

Should you be interested in attending the conference, please fill out the registration form.
