Behind the Scenes of the Democratic Process

After a successful series of winter events surrounding the recent elections in Ukraine and Slovakia, IFES, in cooperation with the CEELI Institute, is excited to announce a third joint event on election observation missions.

Election observation missions aim to promote democracy, human rights, and the rule of law worldwide by assessing the election process of participatory states for transparency, fairness, and general respect for regional and international election standards.

This event will cover important questions about the missions themselves:

  • Why are election observation missions important?
  • Where are they relevant?
  • How is data collected?
  • How are results reported and used?
  • What happens after the observation missions – are the recommendations implemented in practice?
  • In a world of increasing information flows, how will international election observation missions remain relevant?

This event will bring together regional experts, journalists, international and local organizations, the diplomatic community, academia, and the general public.

  • Mr. Jan Kaminek – Czech MFA Human Rights and Transition Policy Department
  • Ms. Beata Martin-Rozumilowicz – International Foundation for Electoral Systems Regional Director for Europe and Eurasia
  • Ms. Gabriela Skulova – Election Observation and Policy Advisory Consultant
  • Mr. Robert Bystrický, Election Observer and Data Analyst
