The Czech Presidency of the European Union and the European Commission are organizing a conference entitled

Building Consensus about EU Policies on Democracy Support

The conference will be held under the auspices of Karel Schwarzenberg, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, and Vaclav Havel, former president of the Czech Republic.

Date:  March 9 – 10, 2009
Venue:  Czech Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Loretánské náměstí,
Prague, Czech Republic

In collaboration with the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) and the Czech Association for Democracy Assistance and Human Rights (DEMAS) the conference will concentrate on the enhancement of political commitment to democracy support of the European Union and its Member States in third countries and laying the groundwork for a future European Consensus on Democracy. It shall provide for an exchange of experiences and best practices between democracy experts from the non-governmental sector, EU Member States and EU institutions, informing the COHOM meeting held in Prague the day following to the conference.
