On the occasion of International Human Rights Day on Demcember 10th was held conference "Return to Europe" – Reflections After 20 Years of Democratic Renewal. At the end of the conference Demas organised screening of documentary film Power of the Powerless (directed by Cory Taylor, USA, 2009) which was followed by informal discussion among former Velvet Revolution student leader Monika MacDonagh-Pajerová and Robert Latypov from the Russian Center for Human Rights Memorial.

Demas association and EUROPEUM held on November 2nd discussion "Czech Republic and EU - (Paper) Tigers in Enforcement of Democracy in World?". Participants were members of the European Parliament Jan Zahradil (ODS) and Libor Rouček (ČSSD), moderator of the debate was Vladimír Bartovic.

On September 15th on the occasion of International Day of Democracy DEMAS organised public debate "Sharing Two Decades of Czech and Polish Experience of Democratic Transformation: Thinking Ahead". Among discussants were Gabriela Dlouhá (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Republic), Jacek Kucharczyk (Institute of Public Affairs, Poland) and Šimon Pánek (People in Need, Czech Republic). The moderator of the debate was Jeff Lovitt (PASOS).

Demas joined the annual NGO Market organized by Forum 2000, which was held on April 24th, 2009 at La Fabrika (Komunardů Str. 30, Prague 7).

The Czech MInistry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission organized a conference on March 9th and 10th, 2009, in Prague to address the issue of the European approach to democracy assistance. The conference was prepared in collaboration with the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) and the Czech Association for Democracy Assistance and Human Rights (DEMAS).
